We are pleased that we can help Suriname in this way. A lot of work had to be done in the background to keep the fundraiser on the right track. The sponsors were eager to help us. For example, a supermarket has made a space available free of charge to store all donated food and medical stuff.
On Sunday 4th of July, a team of enthusiastic volunteers set to work packing all goods in bulk. In total 41 large boxes with a total weight of 4100 kg(!) were packed and loaded into a truck. The Sri Sathya Sai Baba organization Zone 1 in Suriname will make 348 packages from the large bulk packages and then further distribute them to their final destination. Among others, retirement homes and care for the disabled will receive these packages.
On the 14th July, boxes were shipped to Suriname. It is expected to arrive in Suriname on 28th July.
We remain in close contact with the Sri Sathya Sai Baba organization Suriname Zone 1 to ensure that everything goes according to plan and agreement. If we receive an update from them, we will of course share it with you.
The economic crisis, heavy rainfall with enormous flooding and ever increasing COVID-19 infections, have completely disrupted life in Suriname. There is now a total lockdown in the country and code black in medical care. The hospitals can no longer handle the care for corona patients and are struggling, among other things, with a lack of oxygen canisters for COVID patients and nurses.
The situation is worsening by the day.
Vulnerable groups such as the elderly in retirement homes, children in orphanage, single mothers and the disabled in particular, have been hit hard. They desperately need our help!
The Shri Satyam Sai World Foundation in collaboration with Sri Sathya Sai Organization Zone 1 in Suriname, have decided to lend a helping hand to these vulnerable people. To this end, the foundation is setting up a fundraising campaign with the aim of sending sustainable food packages to Suriname.
These packages, with a value of €30 (per package, including shipping and clearance costs), will include:
